LEICESTER kick off a season-defining week with trip to Wolverhampton on Monday as their Sports Insure Premiership play-off destiny is set to be decided.
The Watling JCB Lions moved back into fourth place on 32 points with their win over King’s Lynn last week, but that position is still under threat from Ipswich.
The Witches are currently one point behind the Lions with one match remaining, which also takes place on Monday when they visit King’s Lynn – and a win there would leave Leicester needing three points from their last two fixtures, as if both finish on 34 points it would be Ipswich who hold the advantage on race-points difference.
Those last two fixtures come up at Monmore on Monday and then at Peterborough on Thursday where the Lions are in a strong position for the aggregate point, but that on its own may well not be enough, depending on what happens in the King’s Lynn v Ipswich fixture.
Therefore Leicester can make things much more straightforward if they can go one step further than on their previous visit to Wolves recently when they took the home side all the way to a 45-45 draw before missing out in a Super Heat.
Wolves are the only club with an unbeaten home record but several of their meetings have been close through the summer, although they took a big win over Sheffield last week.
Lewis Kerr makes his debut for the Watling JCB Lions who name a full one-to-seven, with Kerr having replaced Craig Cook, and the former Sheffield man will line up alongside Richie Worrall in the middle-order.
Manager Stewart Dickson said: “These are two tough away matches, but we do travel to Wolverhampton now with a certain degree of confidence.
“That plays a huge part with speedway riders’ mentality, the way they think, so we certainly go there looking to get something.
“It’s only after that meeting that we’ll look at what happened at King’s Lynn where everyone is just assuming Ipswich will win, but it’s not always that easy, and then we’ll know what we have to do at Peterborough.”
